Making Yourself as a GURPS Character

This has been a fun and diverting exercise for our group to occupy itself with. Making ourselves as GUPRS characters. I have provided the guidelines for doing this below, and at the bottom of the page are thumbnails linking you to our character sheets so you can see what our group looks like as GURPS characters. WARNING! this isn't pretty.

Attributes:

ST:

To find what your approximate Strength should be, use one of the three methods below. The whole campaign should (must) use one method. Three alternatives are presented in the name of variety.

DX & HT:

To find you Dexterity and Health, use a timed run between 10 and 500 yards. Take the distance you ran and divide it by the number of seconds it took to run that distance, that should be your basic speed. Multiply your basic speed by 4, rounding down. The result is the number of points you have to spend divided between your Dexterity and Health. Remember that if the distance you were timed in was equal to or less than 100yards, include a "Sprint Bonus", that is subtract 1 from the basic speed number that you come up with. Finally, divide the remaining allotment of points between your Dex and Health, keep in mind if you are clumsy or graceful, how often you are sick, do you smoke, do drugs, drink or have had a major illness.

IQ:

To find your IQ, take the result of your SAT score, another standerdized test with a percentile score or your IQ and consult the chart below.

Advantages:

When deciding on advantages, be realistic. Not everyone will have combat reflexes, high pain threshold, Mathematical Ability, Magic Resistance, Magical Aptitude ect. A good rule of thumb, if you pick an advantage that is not obvious to everyone, then write a paragraph explaining why you feel you have that particular advantage.

Disadvantages:

Again, be realistic and keep in mind that you don't have to take 40 points in disadvantages, a person with this many disads will eventually show up on Oprah.

Skills:

To fill out yourself as a character you need to be able to do something. In picking skills, you should look at what you do for a living, as this is probably the skill that you spend the most time doing and have to be the most proficient at, your lively-hood depends on it! Second, look toward the skills that you are very familiar with and would feel comfortable giving a lecture on. Lastly, look at skills that are special intrest and/or day to day (driving ect.) Remember that if you were taught a skill and haven't used it in years, it's probably gone or at least severely degraded.

Equipment:

Go ahead and write down what clothes you have on and what's in your pockets right now. Don't spend all day inventoring everything you own and deciding what you think would be useful, remember this is for FUN.

Though our group hasn't done it yet, we would like to enter a game setting with the Us characters and see what happens, you can see what we came up with using these guidelines below. The images are of course the actual person. I'm not quite sure these are accurate, but it was fun to do and to share. A final word here, don't be too critical of someone if you think they are fudging a bit on what they know or think they can do, this is if anything an ego test and you don't want to crush your buddie's ego and leave it smashed on the floor. But if you do, this is an excellent way to do it.
